This volume, a first book of poetry helps the urban forester to navigate the intimate discovery of wild life of where she finally learns to see the forest for the trees. Well beyond the order of her mother's garden and the resting place of grandmother's chair; a simple recitation of poems guides her path. A first person 21 first century narrative searches and occasionally finds meaning in longing, rejection, sexuality, ministry and spirituality as she emerges from holy hibernation in the 2020 pandemic. In her sixth decade, she finally returns to her first love of poetry; and finds her voice and signs of wonder and wildlife all around.

This beautifully illustrated book pairs poetry with nonfiction, telling the fascinating stories of the animals who have found homes in our city landscapes across the world, from the pythons traveling Singapore's sewers to the monkeys living in India's temples. Humans may have built towns and cities, but we aren’t the only ones who live in them. Given the smallest chance—a park, a garden, a window box; a basement, a subway tunnel, a bridge—wildlife manages to survive in the city. Among colorful illustrated pages buzzing with city life and animal activity, you'll discover the host of wild animals who live among humans: butterflies, bats, spiders, honeybees, coyotes, and more. Each animal’s story is told through a short poem accompanied by an informational paragraph. Some poems are comical, some poignant, and all make the reader see the world in a different way. After a rousing exploration of animal life, find definitions of the various types of poetry forms used in the book: haiku, cinquain, sonnet, terza rima, villanelle, triolet, reverso, acrostic, and free verse. Look around—you may discover neighbors you didn't know you had!

This book includes poems about many things that happen in life. I have written these poems from experiences that I have lived, things that my friends, co-workers and others have passed on to me and things that have just popped out of my head. I feel that at least one of the poems in this book should bring back one or more memories of something that has happened in your life or somebody you know. It could bring back memories of joy and happiness or memories that you have tried to forget. I hope that the poems in this book bring you joy and happiness plus some add a few moments of humor to your life. If a poem happens to bring back bad memories, I hope the way that the poem is written will help you put your thoughts behind you and let you enjoy the rest of your life. When you are reading this book, you will find yourself changing the name(s) in a poem or multiple poems with the name of one person or many people that you know. I enjoyed bringing the words in these poems to life for your reading. I want to thank you for purchasing this book so that I may share my feelings and observations with other people.

Though the wonders of ancient Roman culture continue to attract interest across the disciplines, it is difficult to find a lively, accessible collection of the full range of the era's literature in English. The Oxford Anthology of Roman Literature provides a general introduction to the literature of the Roman empire at its zenith, between the second century BC and the second century AD. Two features of this extraordinarily fertile period in literary achievement as evidenced by this anthology are immediately and repeatedly clear: how similar the Romans' view of the world was to our own and, perhaps even more obviously, how different it was. Most of the authors included in the anthology wrote in Latin, but as the anthology moves forward in time, relevant Greek texts that reflect the cultural diversity of Roman literary life are also included, something no other such anthology has done in the past. Roman literature was wonderfully creative and diverse, and the texts in this volume were chosen from a broad range of genres: drama, epic, philosophy, satire, lyric poetry, love poetry. By its very nature an anthology can abbreviate and thus obscure the most attractive features of even a masterpiece, so the two editors have not only selected texts that capture the essence of the respective authors, but also have included accompanying introductions and afterwords that will guide the reader in pursuing further reading. The presentations of the selections are enlivened with illustrations that locate the works within the contexts of the world in which they were written and enjoyed. The student and general reader will come away from this learned yet entertaining anthology with a fuller appreciation of the place occupied by literature in the Roman world.
