An elegantly jubilant and personal new collection celebrating love, life and creativity from award-winning poet and Booker Prize-shortlisted novelist, John Fuller In this personal and characteristically brilliant new collection from John Fuller, an abundance of memories abound. From "those once endless years" of a childhood in wartime - tasting of Granny's chicken soup, twizzers and cherry-go-rips - to the pattern of family and friendships, important milestones are brought to vivid life. In 'Before We Met - and After' a sequence of recollections cherish a wife on her eightieth birthday; 'In Whose Head' a piece by Schumann is revisited through advancing years; and in 'Keeper of the Fire' and 'In Memory of John Bayley' late poems of remembrance memorialise lost friends. These are poems of being and time, full of lyric feeling and Fuller's distinctive wit and lightness of touch. Alive with the clang and sway of the "chosen colours of daily family life", together they form a resonant gathering of poems that celebrate, with thoughtfulness and joy, "the feel and length of our lives".

PART 1 Asleep in Fantasy He was not who I dreamed he was and I was unconscious in my fantasy. Past lives ignited the fi re of our connection. Without our past history and my family, my inner child would not have created this fantasy. But these past lives and my childhood were real. I needed to be asleep in fantasy, in order to fall in-between sleep and awake—and awaken to reality. “Wendy Kochenthal’s poems shower us with insight, passion, and the wisdom of the heart. Her imagery is superb and her honesty is courageous as she leads the reader forward, deeper and deeper into self-realization. Wendy’s talent for crafting and painting with words is mirrored in her creative pottery. This collection represents the best of a truly artistic life!” — Laura Lee Perkins, MS, musician, writer, spiritual intuitive “Wendy Kochenthal’s intimate and powerful poems take the reader on a lyric journey into the darkness of childhood as experienced through the present lens of a poet and potter. Each image is a unique container of color of the poet’s vivid imagination. This collection demonstrates the surprise of one art being told through another—one stage of life literally re-visioned through later wisdom. Passion, death and birth—interwoven, create a tapestry to treasure.” — Katherine Soniat, author of Th e Swing Girl and A Raft, A Boat, A Bridge “In her latest collection of poems, Between Sleep and Awake, Wendy Kochenthal leads us on a journey through one of life’s most sublime points of transition. She paints a remarkably rich landscape of the inner world of thought, hope, dreams, longing and inspiration; all brilliantly woven into a tapestry of prose, allegory, and playful wordsmithing. This collection is inspiring, provocative and a true joy to read—it is a ‘do not miss’ for all of us who love to dance in the spaces between.” — Dr. Brad Rachman, author, lecturer, healer

Until the 1950s, most people thought of sleep as a passive, dormant part of our daily lives. Fast forward 70 years and we now know that our brains are very active during sleep. Moreover, sleep affects our daily functioning and our physical and mental health in many ways that we are just beginning to understand. Nerve-signaling chemicals called neurotransmitters control whether we are asleep or awake by acting on different groups of nerve cells, or neurons, in the brain. Neurons in the brainstem, which connects the brain with the spinal cord, produce neurotransmitters such as serotonin and norepinephrine that keep some parts of the brain active while we are awake. Other neurons at the base of the brain begin signaling when we fall asleep. These neurons appear to "switch off" the signals that keep us awake. Research also suggests that a chemical called adenosine builds up in our blood while we are awake and causes drowsiness. This chemical gradually breaks down while we sleep.

How much of your waking time are you fully awake? On the other hand, how often do you stumble through the day on autopilot, half-asleep and out of contact with yourself, instead of feeling connected and alive? In this astounding book, Steve Taylor suggests that our normal consciousness is really a kind of "sleep" from which we sometimes "wake up" into a more intense and complete reality. He provides what is perhaps the first-ever clear explanation of higher states of consciousness, or "awakening experiences." This work delves into: • the methods we human beings have used throughout history to induce awakening experiences, including meditation, sex, sports, psychedelic drugs, and sleep deprivation • how higher states of consciousness were normal and natural to some of the world’s peoples (and still are, in some cases) • and how we can make "wakefulness" our normal state again. By fully explaining awakening experiences, the author makes them much more accessible, which may lead to a revolution in our psychological development as human beings!

This series of images by Japanese photographer Asako Narahashi has been exhibited in Japan to wide acclaim; this monograph marks its first publication in book form. The photographs were made while the artist stood chest-deep in the ocean facing the shoreline; through them she accomplishes the extraction of the viewer's mind from its surrounding, and one finally succumbs to the hallucinatory power of the ocean. In the words of photographic historian, Kotaro Iizawa, "the feeling of being stranded, however, is strangely comforting."
